STUTTGART, Germany, Nov. 19–Ulla Salzgeber and Herzruf’s Erbe took the Grand Prix Freestyle at the German Masters CDI5* Saturday for the third straight sweep of shows since a summer break while Italy’s Valentina Truppa rode Eremo del Castegno for her highest ever score.

Before 8,000 spectators, a sellout in the Hanns Martin Schleyer Halle, Ulla and the 12-year-old Rhinelander gelding scored 82.575 per cent.

Valentina Truppa and Eremo del Castegno placed second on 80.175 per cent, the highest score ever and above 80 per cent for the first time for the 25-year-old former Young Rider star. In the Grand Prix Thursday, the combination placed third on 73.319 per cent.

Valentina began competing the 10-year-old gelding (Rohdiamant x Weltgirl x Weltmeyer) in May, 2010. The pair have competed at the top competitions, including the European Championships in Rotterdam in August and the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany, in July.

At this same competition in 2010, she finished fifth in both the Grand Prix and the Special.

Isabell Werth and Don Johnson placed third.

The freestyle and Grand Prix victories by Ulla, a 53-year-old Olympic gold medalist, and Herzruf’s Erbe, add to wins in two classes each at Lyon, France, and Donaueschingen, Germany in September and October, for an unbroken string of first places.

“it was a faultless performance,” she said. “The crowd liked it, and the judges liked it.

“The atmosphere in the arena was magnificent. I wanted to do something with a bit of pep today so I decided on-the-spur-of the moment for the James Bond freestyle. I love riding it and it was simply wonderful and witty.”

In the Grand Prix for the Special earlier Saturday, Isabell and El Santo NRW placed first on 76.787 per ent with Austria’s Victoria Max-Theurer on Augustin OLD second on 74.426 per cent and Germany’s Monica Theodorescu on Whisper third on 74.234 per cent.
