Catherine Haddad, the German-based reserve rider for United States teams at the 2010 and 2006 World Equestrian Games, has married American veterinarian Greg Staller, according to her Facebook site where late Friday she changed her relationship to “married” and received congratulatory emails and messages from around the world.

Catherine, aged 46, moved to Vechta, Germany, in 1993 and has competed successfully throughout Europe.

Greg Staller, a native Californian, owns and operates Running ‘S’ Equine veterinary clinic in Califon, New Jersey, near the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation headquarters in Gladstone where Catherine was based for several weeks during the WEG selection trials and competition preparation last August and September.

Catherine confirmed the betrothal with the following posting on Facebook:

“e·lope [ih-lohp] –verb (used without object), e·loped, e·lop·ing.
1. to run off secretly to be married, usually without the consent or knowledge of one’s parents.”

In addition to being the reserve rider on Maximus JSS at the 2006 WEG in Aachen, Germany, she competed Maximus in the 2007 World Cup Final in Las Vegas in 2007 and was reserve for the 2010 WEG team on Winyamaro, a horse she is seeking to qualify for the World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany, at the end of April.
