HAGEN, Germany, April 22, 2022–Dinja van Liere rode the 10-year-old Hermes to victory in the Horses & Dreams CDI4* Grand Prix Friday with Germany’s Frederic Wandres on Duke of Britain FRH posting a personal best score a fraction behind the Dutch partnership.
Dinja and the KWPN stallion were awarded 77.913% for the win in their pursuit of a place on the Netherlands’ team for the world championships in Herning, Denmark in less than four months. The duo were selected for the Dutch team at the Tokyo Olympics then denied a start because of an official bureaucratic screwup.
German team combination Frederic Wandres and Duke of Britain, a 15-year-old British-bred Hanoverian gelding, scored 77.239%, 0.674% behind the leading pair, for runner-up. The previous best for Frederic and Duke of Britain was 76.696% set at this same event two years ago. The duo had an insurmountable lead in this year’s World Cup Western European League standings that was snatched away when the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) cut the number of qualifying competitions that removed one of his results.
Denmark’s Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Marshall-Bell, a 10-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, was third on 76.261%.
