COATESVILLE, Pennsylvania, Sept. 9, 2025–Catherine Malone, the daughter of Iron Spring Farm founder Mary Alice Malone, is taking over the operation that is one of the finest in horse sport breeding.
Catherine, 40 years old and an accomplished dressage rider beginning with individual gold in the 2005 North American Youth Championships, has competed over the years based in Florida and Pennsylvania.
Catherine takes over Iron Spring that under her mother, who died last June, acquired some of the top breeding stallions, including Contango a top Warmblood sire. Among horses bred and owned by Iron Spring was Judgement that Beezie Madden rode to several victories including the 2005 headline event at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Canada.

Iron Spring in a statement announcing Catherine’s role said she “will carry forward her mother’s vision with the same commitment to excellence, soundness, and temperament that has always defined our program. Catherine grew up on the farm and brings both deep knowledge and a fresh perspective.
“Over the last several years, Mary Alice and Catherine worked side-by-side to bring in new stallions, like Kaiman, and the highest quality mares, including Noblewood Tarpania, Star.”
Catherine said: “Mom and I spent so much time talking about horses and bloodlines and the kind of horses we want to have in the barn. It all starts with falling in love with horses. Their beauty and spirit. That’s why we do this.”
