WAYNE, ILLINOIS, AUG. 23, 2024–Willy Arts rode the homebred Makanabria DG to the U.S. seven-year-old championship Friday.
Willy of the DG Bar Ranch in Hanford, California was runner-up on the Dutch Warmblood mare in the final competition on 72.757%, but had won the preliminary outing with 74.432%, enough to give the pair the title.
The Dutch-barn Willy who has lived in the United States for 40 years is a well known breeder, trainer and rider of young horses.
Laura Brandt of Stevenson Ranch, California won the final competition on the Oldenburg stallion on a score of 73.100%, but placed third on 73.332% in preliminary.
Ikon was developed in Europe, including training by Helen Langehanenberg.
CORRECTION: An earlier version incorrectly identified the sex of the two horses. Makanabria is a mare, Ikon is a stallion.
