Sabine Schut-Kery on Sonnenberg’s Jersey claimed the U.S. Int. 1 championship Thursday with a sweep of all three competitions and on Gorgeous Latino won the first of two legs of developing Prix St. Georges.
Sabine, who led USA on Sanceo to Tokyo Olympic team silver, won the Int. 1 Freestyle on Jersey on a score of 72.905% to clinch the title. The duo won the St. Georges opening competition on 73.441% and Int. 1 on 72.382%.
Jersey is a 10-year-old black stallion (Vivaldi x Olympic Ferro) owned by Sonnenberg Farm of Sherwood, Orgeon. Sabine had ridden the horse to developing St. Georges championship in 2023.
Olivia LaGoy-Weltz of Haymarket, Virginia on the nine-year-old Hanoverian mare Fade to Black was runner-up on 71.705% in the Freestyle as the pair were in the earlier classes to become reserve champion. Fade to Black (Fantastic x St. Moritz) is owned by Mary Anne McPhail.
Sabine and Gorgeous Latino, eight-year-old KWPN stallion, was awarded 70.000% for the win the developing St. Georges.
Kathryn Fleming-Kuhn of Berlin, Illinois on Franzsis HSR, eighht-year-old Oldenburg, was second on 68.628%.
