WINDSOR, England, May 1, 2024–Gareth Hughes and Classic Goldstrike that the European Championship team gold medal rider describes as “the ultimate family horse,” posted a personal best score to win the Royal Windsor CDI4* Grand Prix Wednesday.
Gareth and Goldstrike, a 13-year-old KWPN gelding, were awarded 71.957% for the victory by the horse that has been competed by Gareth, his wife, Rebecca, and in youth divisions by daughter, Ruby.
Goldstrike, owned by the Hughes family since the age of three, was developed by Rebecca to international Small Tour, moved up to Grand Prix by Gareth and then taken over by Ruby for Junior and Young Rider competitions, including Britain’s European Junior Championship third placed team in 2023. Ruby competed Goldstrike in a Young Rider CDI two weeks before this event.
In the all-British top three placings, Emile Faurie on Bellevue was runner-up on 69.326% with Lewis Carrier on Diego V third on 69.304%.
