MYAKKA CITY, Florida, April 5, 2024–Adrienne Lyle rode Helix to victory in the Terra Nova CDI4* Grand Prix Friday in only the second competition for the American partnership and the highest score for the former Swedish team horse.

Adrienne and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding that she has been riding less than three months was awarded 72.021% for the win just a week after the pair’s debut in Wellington.

In addition to Helix, the Wellington-based Adrienne is also developing Lars van de Hoenderheide–both horses are owned by Heidi Humphries and her Zen Elite Equestrian Center. Heidi also owns Zen Elite’s Bohemian that is competed by Endel Ots.

Both riders are seeking to earn places on the American squad to go to Europe to compete for selection to the team of three combinations at the Paris Olympics. This competition is one of only three remaining in Florida before the deadline, while two qualifying competitions remain in California.

Ashley Holzer, an Olympic rider for Canada but who now competes for the United States, was runner-up on Hansel, 11-year-old KWPN gelding, on 71.283.

“He got a little bit excited when we went in there with the wind picking up and stuff, so we lost focus in a few places, which held back the score from being higher than what it was,” Adrienne explained. “But I’m still really happy with the performance he put in and happy that’s a solid score to get. And he settled and came back to me as we went and kind of settled into the test, so that’s great. We’re very green partnership so we’re geng to know each other so for him to get a little bit distracted and then come back to me and focus I was happy with him.

“To have a 72 with mistakes that we can definitely clean up is exciting because that’s showing you that they’re rewarding the quality of what he does do. We just need to clean up a few little communication errors in places but he tries so hard. He is such an amazing character.

“He’s a worker. He always wants to work, always comes out giving 100%. If we have a mistake it’s usually because he just tries too hard in the moment for something, but he’s a horse that absolutely loves his job and that’s really fun to get to ride.”
