Famoso OLD, Benjamin Werndl’s 2022 World Championship partner, was put down after an accident on their family farm in Aubenhausen, Germany.

Benjamin reported on Instagram news of the death of Famoso, a 15-year-old Oldenburg gelding that he developed from the age of seven.

“I don’t want to write that, I don’t want it to be true. And yet I have to tell you with a heavy heart: Famoso is no longer alive.

“We don’t know exactly how it happened. Suddenly he was standing on three legs in the paddock. Comminuted fracture. No chance of healing. We had to rescue him.

“A world is collapsing for me. He was so special. So intelligent, so mischievous, so playful, so cheeky and so sweet. And so talented. We still had so much to do, especially this year.”

The goal this year was to seek to join his sister, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl on TSF Dalera BB, on the German team at the Olympics in Paris.
