WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 30, 2024–Olympic silver medalist Adrienne Lyle rode Lars van de Hoenderhelde to victory Saturday in the first CDI Grand Prix Special for the new partnership with Endel Ots on Zen Elite’s Bohemian runner-up to put the two horse and rider combinations into the top qualifiers to go to Europe to seek a start on the United States team at the Paris Games.

Adrienne and the 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding were awarded 73.192% for the CDI3* Special win two days after placing second to Endel and Bohemian in the Grand Prix.

Endel, like Adrienne based in Wellington, and the 14-year-old Westfalen gelding were awarded 72.490% in the Special. He has had the horse for about the same period of time as Adrienne has been partnered with Lars and a third Grand Prix mount, Helix that were bought by Heidi Humphries, a successful business owner in nearby Ft. Lauderdale.

Bohemian was competed by Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour for Denmark at the Tokyo Olympics and the 2021 European Championships.

Kasey Perry-Glass in only the second CDI on Heartbeat W.P., a 12-year-old KWPN gelding, placed third on 71.383%.

Kasey rode Dublet on the U.S. team for bronze at the 2016 Olympics and for silver along with Adrienne and Salvino at the 2018 World Equestrian Games.

“I was so incredibly happy with him today,” said Adrienne after the ride on the horse that had been competed by world champion rider Charlotte “Lottie” Fry of Great Britain. “This is the first full Special I’ve ridden through on him. We chose just to do a national Grand Prix and then try to kind of trust him that he would be there when we needed him.

“I’m just so, so happy at his energy and his honesty and his willingness. He really seems like he’s starting to understand what I want and fight for me in there, which is really special for him to do in such a new relationship.”

Endel told dressage-news.com he loved “the feeling and the energy” on Bohemian. “He felt really with me.”

Prospects have three more competitions in Florida–two at Terra Nova near Sarasota and one at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala for a “short” list of about eight riders and horses to go to Europe to compete in June and July before the Paris Olympics.

Endel and Bohemian and Adrienne and Lars after one qualifying CDI now stand in the third and fourth places behind Sarah Tubman on First Apple and Steffen Peters on Suppenkasper. Sarah and First Apple last competed at the Pan American Games in October but plan to show next month.
