WELLINGTON, Florida, Mar. 15, 2024–Katherine Bateson Chandler rode Haute Couture to back-to-back victories to win the Global Dressage Festival CDI3* Grand Prix Special Friday to put the combination on track for a place on the United States squad for a European summer tour leading to the Paris Olympics.

Katherine, based in Wellington, and the 12-year-old KWPN mare scored 70.043% in the Special, a day after capturing the Grand Prix. She blamed herself for a mistake in the two-tempi changes that dampened their result.

Canada’s Ariana Chia on the P.R.E. stallion Guateque IV was second on 69.340%.

Susan Dutta, also of Wellington, on Don Design DC that she owns with her husband was third on 69.192%.

“My biggest goal is to be consistent and keep our trust and keep building on this,” Katherine said after her ride on Haute Couture.

Carl Hester, her long time trainer during her career on U.S. teams with different horses on both sides of the Atlantic, is scheduled to come to Wellington next week.

I’m in a really good place now for him to come in and sort of see because he knows the horse very well,” she said of Haute Couture that she started riding just over two years ago after the mare was competed by Dinja van Liere on the Dutch championship team.

She plans to compete the horse in the last Global competition at the end of this month and likely go to the World Equestrian Center in Ocala for a required third competition to qualify for the European competition squad.
