A deadline of Feb. 29 for applications for riders seeking to be on the United States team for the Paris Olympics was set by U.S. Equestrian in the final requirements posted Thursday.
“No applications will be accepted after February 29, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET,” the federation said in its final dressage athlete selection procedures for the Paris Games July 30-Aug. 4.
Fifteen CDIs that can be used by riders seeking qualifying scores remain on the U.S. competition calendar–10 in Florida, four in California and one in Texas–by the cutoff date of May 6.
A short list of up to eight riders and horses will then be named to compete in observation events, the last one to be the CDIO5* Nations Cup in Rotterdam, Netherlands June 20-23.
Nomination of a team of three riders and horses plus one reserve combination must be submitted to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee by June 24.
A minimum of two scores of 67% are required for combinations to be eligible for Paris.
Among U.S. requirements is “consistency of scores over 77%.”
Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper are currently atop the rankings with a single qualifying score of 74.804%. Sarah Tubman on First Apple stands second on 73.469% with Anna Marek on Fire Fly in third on 71.040%.
The status of Adrienne Lyle and Salvino on the teams with Steffen that earned silver at the Tokyo Olympics and the 2018 World Equestrian Games is not known. Several new combinations are starting CDI Grand Prix or have been announced but not yet competed.
