MECHELEN, Belgium, Dec. 29, 2023–Charlotte “Lottie” Fry rode Everdale to victory in the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Friday two weeks after the Tokyo Oympic bronze medal partnership placed second on this winter’s championship circuit.
Charlotte and Everdale scored 84.980% for the win a day after taking the Grand Prix in a ride she described as the the best ever on the 14-year-old KWPN stallion. At London earlier this month the duo was runner-up in the Western European League leading to the Final in Saudi Arabia next April.
The British rider is No. 2 in the world behind Jessica von Bredow-Werndl of Germany who is not planning to compete in the Final on TSF Dalera BB, World Cup champion the past two years.
The win earned Charlotte 20 points to go with the 17 won at London to move her into contention for a place in the Final if she decides to pursue it.
Personal best scores were posted by the Netherlands’ Marlies van Baalen and Habibi DVB at 81.160% for runner-up and Belgium’s Flore de Winne and the nine-year-old Flynn FRH of 80.330% for third.
This was the first World Cup qualifier this season for Marlies and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding that were on the Dutch team at the European Championships in September.
Flore de Winne and Flynn, a Hanoverian stallion, also competed at the London World Cup event and the Europeans.
