WARENDORF, Germany, Sept. 2, 2023–Brandi Roenick, the star California youth rider who lives in Germany, rode Escanto PS to the German four-year-old stallion championship Saturday.
Brandi, who last competed in the United States more than six years ago, and the Oldenburg stallion (Escamillo × Fürstenball) received a winning score of 9.3 with marks of 10 for trot, canter and rideability, 8 for walk and 8.5 for conformation,
The 28-year-old Brandi, working with the Paul Schockemöhle stallion for about five years, said after the ride: “From the moment I rode in, I had a completely different feeling than on Thursday. He was with me a lot more, had a lot of strength and when I picked him up, he came right back. He was completely with me and concentrated from the first to the last kick.
“I’m speechless, I’m so happy, I can’t believe what just happened,” she sobbed.
“Besides being incredibly talented and beautiful, his character is out of the ordinary. He’s one of those horses that comes out of the box every day and does his job. He is the kindest, sweetest, heartbreaking animal and every day he fights for me. This is all I dreamed of and worked for this year. So I’m speechless right now. He’s my king, whether he’s Bundeschampion or not!”
At the North American Youth Championships in 2012, she won team, individual and freestyle gold on Weltino’s Magic, was successful on Pretty Lady in 2008 and 2011 and on Nobel in 2010.
