WAYNE, Illinois, Aug. 24, 2023–Codi Harrison and Katholt’s Bossco won the Festival of Champions Grand Prix Special Thursday by a slim margin over U.S. World Championships team rider Katie Duerrhammer on Paxton.
Codi of Wellington, Florida and the 16-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding that have been partnered for eight years scored 69.829% for the victory a day after posting 72.477% to win the Grand Prix.
Katie and Paxton, 12-year-old Westfalen gelding, earned 69.637%, just 0.192% behind for runner-up.
Katie, also based in Wellington, and Paxton have competed at CDIs mostly in Florida but were on the American Nations Cup team in Rotterdam in 2022. Katie rode Quartett at the 2022 World Championships where the U.S. team earned a start at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Lehua Custer, also based in Wellington, on the 13-year-old KWPN gelding F.J. Ramzes scored 69.595% for third, as they were in the Grand Prix.
With the Grand Prix counting for 45% of the result for the championship and 40% for the Special, Codi and Bossco go into Saturday’s Freestyle worth 15% with a total of 60.545%. Lehua and F.J. Ramzes stand second on 59.083% with Katie and Paxton in third on 58.711%
