Bonaparte, ridden by Heike Kemmer to team gold for Germany at two Olympics and individual bronze in the pair’s second Games, has been put down at the age of 30.
Between the Olympics in Athens in 2004 and Hong Kong in 2008 Heike and Bonaparte were on the German gold medal team at the 2006 World Equestrian Games at Aachen, Germany. The duo also performed on German gold medal teams in the European Championships in 2003 and 2005.
The horse that had grown up with Heike and competed with her on the world stage was retired from top sport in 2011. remained with Heike for the rest of his life.
