HAGEN, Germany, April 20, 2023–Sönke Rothenberger rode the nine-year-old Fendi to win Horses & Dreams CDI4* Grand Prix Thursday in only the second Big Tour competition for the partnership.
Sönke and the Danish Warmblood stallion scored 77.152% for the much awaited competition since the pair’s inaugural international Grand Prix six months ago.
The only other international event for the duo was in a five-year-old young horse competition in Germany where they won the final with a score of 88.200%.
Sönke, 28, is best known for riding Cosmo on Germany’s Olympic gold medal team in 2016, team gold and individual bronze at the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon and three European Championship team golds and individual silver and bronze medals.
Nanna Skodborg Merald of Denmark on Blue Hors St. Schufro, a 12-year-old Hanoverian stallion, was runner-up on 75.848%.
Sweden’s Patrik Kittel on the 11-year-old Westfalen mare Forever Young HRH was third on 75.674%.
Australia’s Lyndal Oatley on Elvive, 14-year-old mare, won the CDI3* Grand Prix Special on a score of 73.745% for a double victory.The pair won the Grand Prix a day earlier.
Denmark’s Anna Zibrandtsen on Quel Filou, a 12-year-old gelding, was second on 73.340%.
Germany’s Laura Strobel on Valparaiso was third in 70.426%.
