‘s-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, Mar. 11, 2023–Charlotte “Lottie” Fry and Glamourdale won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Saturday to earn an invitation to the Final in Omaha and a highly anticipated head-to-head contest with defending champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB.
Lottie and the charismatic 12-year-old black stallion were awarded 86.835% for the win in the last qualifying competition around the globe.
The 27-year-old rider for Great Britain and Glamourdale, world champions as both individual and Freestyle partners, came into Saturday’s final as favorites. Lottie lives in the Netherlands where she is the stable rider for Van Olst Horses that owns Glamurdale.
The ride was highlighted by marks of 10 from all five judges in the first extended canter and 10s from three judges in a second extended canter, two 10s in two-time changes and a 10 for entrance and halts at the beginning and end of the test. Resistatance by Glamourdale in the half-pass right gave the pair an average of 4.4 for the movement.
Dutch star Dinja van Liere and Hermès, an 11-year-old stallion, was runner-up on 83.375% to clinch a start in Omaha. The placing moved the pair up to third place in Western Europe, which gets a total of nine of 18 spots in the starting lineup.
Germany’s Isabell Werth, already qualified for Omaha as the leading rider in Western Europe, and on the 17-year-old gelding Emilio scored 82.760% for third place. She has a choice of either Emilio or the 13-year-old DSP Quantaz that she competed in three World Cup events.
For Isabell Omaha will be her 23rd Final on nine different horses since her first World Cup in 1993. She has been champion four times, three of them on Weihegold OLD that she rode for three straight victories beginning in Omaha in 2017. Isabell has competed in four Finals in the U.S. for the titles on Warum Nicht in Las Vegas in 2007 and Weihegold in Omaha. That matches the most by an American, Steffen Peters who rode Ravel to the championship in Las Vegas in 2009.
