California’s Genay Vaughn has been awarded $25,000 Anne Barlow-Ramsey grant to further develop her U.S.-bred Fleur Noir WSHS with German team rider Frederic Wandres.

Genay, 28, of Elk Grove competed the eight-year-old Hanoverian mare (Fuerstenball x Weltmeyer) at CDI1* Prix St. Georges at Wellington’s Global Dressage Festival last winter. Genay has partnered Fleur Noir for the past three years .

She will work with Frederic on moving up to Intermediate II. Frederic rides for Hof Kasselmann in Hagen, Germany and in 2023 will compete at Wellington for his third winter season.

Fleur Noir was bred by Lawrence and Janet Jones of West Sierra Hanoverian Sport Horses and owned by Michele and Genay Vaughn. Genay has been partnered with Fleur for three years, taking her from First Level to Prix St. Georges. The duo become members of the Kundrun USEF Dressage Development Program.

“To be the recipient of such a prestigious grant means the world to me,” Genay said of the award that was established in 2008 and administered by The Dressage Foundation. “I look forward to utilizing this gracious commitment from the Fund to push even more aggressively toward my dreams of representing the USA at the highest level with my U.S.-bred mare. I will continue to advocate for U.S.-bred horses and hope to make Dr. Barlow-Ramsay’s family proud.”
