AARHUS, Denmark, Oct. 23, 2022–Denmark’s Carina Cassøe Krüth and Heiline’s Danciera on Sunday won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle to kick off qualifiers in Western Europe to earn a start at the Final of the championship in Omaha next April. The Danish lineup of four top finishers all scored at least 80%.

Carina and the 11-year-old Danish Warmblood mare scored 85.925% for the win and the 20 points to go with it in the first of 11 qualifying competitions over almost six months.

Carina and Danciera that followed victory in the Grand Prix Saturday were on Denmark’s world championship gold medal team two months ago and competed at the Tokyo Olympics as well as the pair’s first first World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany in April.

Nanna Merrald Rasmussen and Blue Hors St. Schufro, 11-year-old Hanoverian stallion, scored 82.610% for runner-up as the pair was in the Grand Prix. This was was only the duo’s third Big Tour competition over almost two years. Nanna rode Blue Hors Zack on Denmark’s teams at the world championships and the Tokyo Games.

Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Zippo M.I., 10-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, was awarded 81.330% for third, up one place from the Grand Prix.

Andreas Helgstrand and the eight-year-old Jovian completed the Danish sweep of the top four places as was the case in the Grand Prix, awarded 80.000% for fourth. Andreas and the KWPN black stallion that was world champion at ages five and seven and began Big Tour five months ago were third in the Grand Prix.

Western Europe gets nine spots in the Omaha Final lineup of 18 combinations. One spot also goes to defending champion which is Jessica von Bredow-Werndl of Germany on TSF Dalera BB that needs to compete in two qualifiers to get a start and bring Western Europe’s total to 10.

The number of contenders even before the Western European league (WEL) began is already crowded with 21 riders having garnered points from qualifiers in other leagues that have been carried over to WEL. Before this qualifier, nine riders from six nations were on at least 20 points, the number awarded for a win.

The next qualifier is in Lyon, France later this week.
