AACHEN, Germany, July 2, 2022–The USA’s Christian Simonson rode Son of a Lady to third place in the Young Rider Freestyle at the World Equestrian Festival Saturday in only the second international competition for the partnership.
Spain’s Sergio Moron Basoco on Farnham was the winner on 79.135% with Sara Aagaard Hyrm on Atterupgaards Cooper second on 76.530%.
Christian based in Wellington, Florida and Son of a Lady, 11-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, scored 74.930% for third.
He acquired the horse late last year and competed in two national competitions in Florida during the winter circuit.
The pair were selected for the Young Rider tour of Europe for their first international event, at the Young Rider Nations Cup at Hagen, Germany.
At this event, the duo scored 70.706% in the Young Rider individual competition Friday.
Christian who is coached by Adrienne Lyle plans to move up to the Under-25 division next year.
Fellow American Miki Yang, who competed here and at the World Equestrian Games in vaulting eight years ago, rode Donavan in the Young Rider Freestyle to a score of 68.625%.
Donavan, a 15-year-old KWPN gelding, was competed by Miki on the gold medal team at the 2021 North American Youth Championships and claimed individual silver. She is coached by Steffen Peters who rode Donavan at Small Tour here four years ago.
