ACHLEITEN, Austria, June 17, 2022–Austria’s Olympic rider Christian Schumach and Donna Karacho won the CDI4* Grand Prix Friday while USA’s Sarah Tubman and First Apple were runner-up in their first European competition.

Christian and the 15-year-old Westfalen mare scored 70.566% for the victory, the third straight win for the partnership.

Sarah Tubman based in Wellington, Florida and First Apple, 12-year-old KWPN stallion, were awarded 69.544% for second place. Until a mistake in the one-tempi changes, the pair were leading.

Sarah and First Apple, individual gold medal pair at the 2019 Pan American Games, are one of several Americans competing in Europe ahead of selection of the U.S. team for the world championships in Herning, Denmark in August.

The duo are entered in the CDI4* at Aachen, Germany in two weeks.

Stefanie Schatz-Weihermüller of Germany and C’est la Vie, a 15-year-old KWPN gelding, were third on 69.326%.
