Qualification for the American world championships short list has ended with selection of a squad of up to eight riders and horses to be selected for Europe competitions next month.
Adrienne Lyle on Salvino and Steffen Peters on Suppenkasper, both members of the Tokyo Olympic and 2018 World Equestrian Games, silver medal teams head the rankings.
The European events of CDIO5* competitions at Rotterdam and Aachen, Germany in June will be key selection events for the team of four riders and horses at the world championships in Herning, Denmark in August.
Selection of the short list is not, according to U.S. Equestrian criteria, not based solely on results but includes other factors.
Combinations not on the short list are not eliminated from consideration for the championship team as results from events up to the time the Herning squad is chosen will be considered. Some combinations not among likely contenders for the short list have already scheduled European shows.
The top ranked combinations on the qualifying short list with the average of Grand Prix results considered as critical as the Grand Prix will determine the championship team results. Results of the championship team competion will in turn also qualify several nations for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
