Coronavirus restrictions in Sweden will be lifted on Feb. 9 but too late to save the Gothenburg Horse Show that was to have staged a dressage World Cup qualifier later in the month. Easing restrictions in Europe raise hopes of organizers that the World Final will go ahead in April after being canceled the past two years.

Sweden’s Prime Minister on Thursday announced the end of all restrictions, including trade fairs and unlimited spectators at indoor events.

Tomas Torgersen of GHS said the organization waited as long as possible before cancelling the event and there was not enough time left to get the Scandinavium center ready.

Qualifiers will go on in Neumünster, Germany Feb. 18-20 and ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands Mar. 10-13.

The Final is scheduled for Leipzig, Germany April 6-10.
