WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 15, 2022–Sweden’s Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén rode Devanto to a personal best score to win the CD4* Grand Prix Special while Susan Pape of Great Britain on Harmony’s Giulilanta captured the CDI1* Intermediate 1 Saturday to underline strong European presence the opening week of the winter-long Global Dressage Festival.

Tinne and Devanto, a 13-year-old Holsteiner gelding, were awarded 73.425%, a score that easily beat their previous best of 70.915% posted at last April’s Global competition. The result came two days after winning the Grand Prix and a year since first competing Devanto which was at these same show grounds.

“The possibility to do this, to show week after week in the same place; you can almost school in an international Grand Prix atmosphere,” said the seven-time Olympian of spending winters in Florida as she has since 2011 as the rider for Lövsta Stuteri. “That’s the feeling, that you can get to know a horse extremely well, to do it again and again, to repeat it. From Sweden, we travel three days to every show. You can’t go to too many shows one after the other, you would hurt the horse, or me, or the driver!

“Here you can go again and again and try to figure out and adjust your own way of competing. It gives you so many possibilities here to ride and train and compete, of course. Getting to know a horse, or having young ones, it’s super.”

The playbook for Devanto is similar to that of Don Auriello, a Hanoverian gelding, that was first competed by Tinne in Florida in 2011. In addition to becoming regulars at Wellington, the pair had a remarkable career at top sport of the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, the 2014 and 2018 World Equestrian Games, five World Cup Finals and two European Championships.

Susan Dutta of Wellington and Figeac DC scored 68.956% as the only other combination in the Special.
