LONDON, Dec. 17, 2021–Charlotte Dujardin and Gio won the London International Horse Show World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Friday with a personal best score for the second day in a row.

Charlotte and her Tokyo Olympic partner scored 89.040% , beating the British pair’s previous best of 88.543% posted at the Games in July. Charlotte and the 10-year-old KWPN gelding, ranked No. 3 in the world, logged a personal best 82.553% in the Grand Prix Thursday.

Charlotte and Gio were awarded 14 marks of the maximum of 10, three of the five judges giving 10s for choreography and three for the music and interpretation.

The partnership earned team and individual bronze in Tokyo in July and followed up to take team silver and Freestyle bronze at the European Championships in September. Gio was sold last month for British junior rider Annabella Pidgley to compete.

Great Britain’s Charlotte Fry and Dark Legend, 13-year-old KWPN gelding, were awarded 81.945% for runner-up. This was the first World Cup event for the Charlotte and 13-year-old KWPN gelding this year.

The German team combination of Frederic Wandres and Duke of Britain FRH, the 14-year-old British-bred Hanoverian gelding, scored 80.260% for third place. Frederic was already atop the Western European League and the London result boosted the rider’s point total to 65 that improved the chances of an invitation to the Final in Leipzig, Germany in April.

Frederic had been in the running for an invitation to his first Final in 2020 and again in 2021 but coronavirus led to the annual championship being canceled.

Denmark’s Nanna Skodborg and Orthilia, 16-year-old Oldenburg mare, were eliminated. The pair placed third in the Grand Prix Thursday.
