GROTE BRUGEL, Belgium, Sept. 3, 2021–Patrik Kittel and Fiontini won the CDI3* Grand Prix Friday for first Big Tour victory for the partnership while spouse Lyndal Oatley of Australia on Eros was runner-up on a personal best score.
Patrik and the 11-year-old Danish Warmblood mare scored 75.348% in only the second Grand Prix since the Swedish team rider took over the ride a month ago from Andreas Helgstrand who said he was too involved in his worldwide horse sales business operations to focus on Fiontini.
Fiontini (Fassbinder x Romanov) with Helgstrand stable rider Severo Jurado Lopez, was the world young horse triple champion–at 5, 6 and 7 years of age. Andreas competed the horse in three shows in 2020 and 2021 before turning Fontini over to Patrik, a three-time Olympian for Sweden but based in Germany with his wife, Lyndal, and their son.
Lyndal and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding scored 71.456% for second place in the pair’s third Big Tour event. The duo competed at one CDI in 2020 and one in May this year.
USA’s Jennifer Williams in her first competition outside North America rode Millione to third place on 70.435%.
Jennifer of Olympia, Washington and the 18-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding, are preparing for the Nations Cup at the World Equestrian Festival in Aachen, Germany, in two weeks.
The CDI3* Prix St. Georges was won by Jorinde Verwimp of Belgium on Golddream VD Kempenhoeve on 71.059% with the Netherlands-based American Lina Uzunhasen on Furst Fabelhaft UZN second on 69.706%.
