Two CDI3* events scheduled for Valencia, Spain later this month have been canceled and the European Dressage Championships for children, junior and young riders set for July will be moved from the show grounds where the equine herpes virus EHV-1 broke out leading to the death of at least 18 horses.

In2Strides, organizers of the CDIs and the championships, announced the schedule changes that a statement said was “due to the outbreak of EHV-1 rhinoneumonitis that appeared at CES Valencia in late February and the uncertainty over authorization of the return to competition.”

International equestrian events have been locked down in several European nations until April 12 as a result of the EHV outbreak.

The CDI3*s were scheduled for April 15-18 and April 22-25 with the championships on the calendar for July 5-11.

“Despite efforts CES Valencia is making to get the facilities ready to reset the competition, we are still unsure from the health authorities when the facilities will be authorized to host competitions of this category,” the organizers said.
