WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 28, 2021–Steffen Peters and Suppenkasper began the year where they left off in 2020 with victory Thursday in the Global Dressage Festival CDI4* Grand Prix for the 16th straight win going back 12 months.

Steffen rode the 13-year-old KWPN gelding to a score of 76.761%at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. Steffen made the 2,600-mile/4,184km drive from his base in San Diego, California to Wellington to check off a bucket list idea to pursue a place on America’s team that if successful would be his fifth Olympics.

Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu and All In, Canada’s top combination, placed second on 71.891% in their first international competition since the Nations Cup at the same Palm Beach International Equestrian Center last March.

Katherine Bateson-Chandler of Wellington and Alcazar were third on 70.913%.

With coronavirus that is still a pandemic 10 months since it halted last year’s Global circuit where he competed, he said: “If you look at the world, there’s nothing good about Covid because we lost so many people, and there was so much tragedy, but I think it really opened up our eyes when we wake up in the morning and we can take a deep breath, we can appreciate those things.

“I wake up with more gratitude every single day, and I think that shows a little bit in the riding. If I have a ride that didn’t go that well, it’s so insignificant now.”
