HAMBURG, Germany, Jan. 26, 2021–The 100th German dressage and show jumping derby has been postponed from May to August in hopes coronavirus will be under control enough to allow spectators, the organizers announced Tuesday.
The historic event could not be staged financially without spectators, organizer Volker Wulff, reported.
“A tournament like the German Show Jumping and Dressage Derby is by no means imaginable without a spectator,” he said in announcing the new dates of Aug. 25-29. “And to be honest, it cannot be financed either.
“We feel it is our duty to do everything we can to implement the Derby 2021. We owe it to sponsors and viewers who have shown great loyalty to the Hamburg tournament in this time of crisis.”
Five tournament days were scheduled for May–the Longines Global Champions Tour and Global Champions League of five-star jumping and the derbies of dressage and jumping.
