The Frankfurt International Christmas horse show that was a replacement for a previously canceled dressage World Cup event, has been canceled as tougher restrictions are imposed throughout western Europe to deal with an upsurge in coronavirus. All but one Western European jumping qualifiers for what is to be a joint Final have also been called off.
The finals of the German national series, Louisdor Prize, Piaff Prize and Nürnberger Burg Pokal, will be staged at the Rath-Linsenhof home at the Schafhof near Frankfurt Dec. 17-20.
The cancellation announced Friday by the Frankfurt organizers means only four of 10 qualifiers remain for the annual championships that is scheduled for Gothenburg, Sweden in April. The four are Aarhus, Denmark that was held last month to kick off the indoor series, Salzburg, Austria set for a month away, Neumünster, Germany on the calendar for February and s’-Hertogenbopsch, Netherlands set for March.
Lyon, France; Stuttgart, Germany; Madrid; London; Mechelen, Belgium and Amsterdam have already been canceled. Frankfurt had been the replacement for Stuttgart.
Western Europe is allocated nine of the 18 starting places at the World Cup Final as well as the defending champion that is Isabell Werth of Germany.
The Central European circuit that is allocated two starting places at the Final wraps up next week with its fifth qualifier, set for Slovakia.
The circuit in North America gets into full swing next week with a qualifier in Thermal, California and a second Thermal competition and a newly scheduled World Cup show in Wellington, Florida next month.
The Adequan Global Dressage Festival at Wellington of three months beginning in the New Year includes three more World Cup events as well a CDI5*, two CDI4*s and a Nations Cup. A World Cup event is also set for Temecula, California in mid-March.
The Pacific League of Australia and New Zealand that is allocated one starting place has not staged any events and none are on the calendar including for the first several months of 2021.
