BUDAPEST, Sept. 27, 2020–Morgan Barbançon and Sir Donnerhall II OLD won the World Cup Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday to give France’s top ranked rider a big head start before the Western European League begins next month.
Morgan and the 14-year-old Oldenburg stallion scored 76.575% for the win a day after posting a personal best in the Grand Prix in the rider’s campaign for an invitation to her fourth World Cup Final–that would be her second riding for France as she competed in the first two under Spain’s flag.
The win in her second Central European competition gave her 28.5 points to lead the Western European circuit that starts in Denmark Oct. 16. Four of the 10 qualifiers for the Gothenburg, Sweden Final next April have been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ireland’s Anna Merveldt on Esporim was runner-up on 73.650% that places the rider third in Western European standings.
Austria’s Christian Schumach and Donna Karacho were third on 73.600% to boost the pair into second on the WEL rankings.
