BALVE, Germany, Sept. 19, 2020–Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB won the Grand Prix Special Saturday to claim German Championship gold with Isabell Werth on Weihegold OLD taking silver and Dorothee Schneider on Faustus bronze.
Jessica and the 13-year Trakehner mare scored 83.549%, placed at the top of the standings by three of the five judges, all Germans in the country’s national championships. Hundreds of spectators were allowed into the show grounds in an easing of coronavirus restrictions that had delayed these championships for four months.
Among the seven marks of 10 awarded the winning duo were three in the final centerline piaffe-passage and two for rider’s position and seat.
Isabell and Weihegold, the world No. 2 partnership, 2016 Olympic team gold medal partnership and triple World Cup victor, were awarded 82.569% for runner-up, and preferred by two of the judges.
Dorothee Schneider and Faustus placed third on 78.706%.
Benjamin Werndl on Daily Mirror was close behind on 78.431%.
The score for Jessica and Dalera, ranked No. 3 in the world, was the pair’s highest ever in the Special, surpassing the 81.723% at a CDI4* last month but does not count for international comparison purposes.
The championship Freestyle is set for Sunday in the event, that comes in a year when the World Cup Final was canceled and the Olympics deferred for a year as victims of the pandemic.
