ACHLEITEN, Austria, July 26, 2020–Isabell Werth and Weihegold OLD won the CDI4* Grand Prix Special Sunday in the German pair’s first event since the coronavirus lockdown.
The world No. 2 and 2016 Olympic team gold medal combination scored 80.915% two days after taking the Grand Prix and six months since their last competition in which they qualified to defend the World Cup title.
The Covid-19 pandemic also prevented, at least for this year, the chance for the pair to become the first duo to win four consecutive World Cup championships as the Final set for Las Vegas in April was canceled.
Victoria Max-Theurer, the four-time Olympian for Austria, was runner-up on Abegglen FH NRW on a score of 77.596%, only the second Grand Prix Special for the pair.
Simone Pearce on Destano was third on 74.617%, an Australian record for the duo in only their third event beginning this year. Simone and Destano set a Grand Prix record on Friday.
