Juan Matute Guimon responded to treatment for an inflammation and was reported to have been transferred to another hospital in Madrid Friday in preparation for surgery to repair a “congenital malformation” in the brain of the 22-year-old Spanish team rider.

The condition of Juan was described by the Spanish equestrian Internet site Ecuestre as “stable and the pressure in the brain has dropped.”

The family had found a specialist at Jiménez Díaz Foundation to repair what Ecuestre said was a “congenital malformation” in the brain.

An operation could be performed Saturday, it said.

The Jiménez Díaz Foundation is listed as a private hospital with brain neurosurgery as one of its specialties.

Juan was transferred to Jiménez Díaz from the Hospital Universitario la Paz where he had been treated since Tuesday. He was helicoptered to la Paz when he collapsed after riding.
