LIER, Belgium, Mar. 1, 2020–Spencer Wilton and Super Nova II won the CDI4* Grand Prix Special Sunday to lead a British sweep of the top three places and complete the return of the Olympic and championship partnership. Marlies van Baalen and Ben Johnson won the Freestyle on a personal best score.
Spencer and the 17-year-old British-bred Hanoverian gelding scored 76.809% for the win, a day after capturing the Grand Prix in the duo’s first competition since the World Equestrian Games in Tryon in September 2018 where they were on the British bronze medal team. They won team silver at the 2016 Olympics.
Sonnar Murray Brown on Erlentanz placed second on a personal best 74.340% as was their runner up score in the Grand Prix.
Gareth Hughes on KK Woodstock was third on 73.085% in only the third Big Tour event for the pair.
Marlies van Baalen of the Netherlands on Ben Johnson posted a personal best score of 78.155% to win the Freestyle.
Compatriot Adelinde Cornelissen on Aqiedo was second on 77.560% with Camille Cheret Judet of France on Duke of Swing third on 75.580%.
