WELLINGTON, Florida, Feb. 27, 2020–First Apple, forgetting that he had moved up to Grand Prix from Small Tour, halted instead of  piaffing at X and dropped back to second place with Sarah Lockman aboard in their Big Tour debut at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CDI3* Thursday.

Until the final centerline mistake with marks of one point from most of the five judges for the piaffe and transition, the Pan American Games individual gold medal partnership were trending over 70%.

Instead, First Apple, a 10-year-old KWPN stallion and Sarah were awarded a total of 67.348% to place second behind Canada’s Diane Creech and Chrevis Christo on 67.935%.

“I was so happy with Apple,” said Sarah of Murietta, California who described the horse’s early halt as “a flash back from the Small Tour.”

“Otherwise a pretty darn good test for a green Grand Prix  horse,” she said. “A top three finish in his first Grand Prix. I could not be more proud and I can’t wait to show the Special on Saturday… Apple loves that test!”

Sarah and First Apple were undefeated in eight starts at Small Tour, including team competitions at the Pan Ams last July in which the U.S. was awarded silver and the pair took individual gold.
