WELLINGTON, Florida, Jan. 23, 2020–Steffen Peters on Suppenkasper won the CDI3* Grand Prix Thursday while Olivia LaGoy-Weltz riding Lonoir in the first international competition in 18 months won the World Cup Grand Prix.
Steffen and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding scored 74.696% for the third victory in three starts this year, seeking a place on the U.S. team for the Tokyo Olympics. The San Diego, Calfornia-based rider and Suppenkasper swept Global’s opening week World Cup competition.
Agnete Kirk Thinggaard of Denmark, competing at Global for the first time, placed second on Blue Hors Zatchmo on 72.391%, the highest Grand Prix score in three starts for the pair that began Big Tour last October.
Agnete also placed fourth on Blue Hors Don Olymbrio on 71.783% in the rider’s debut on the 12-year-old stallion. Don Olymbrio had previously been competed by Danish team mate Daniel Bachmann Andersen.
Charlotte Jorst of Reno, Nevada on Kastel’s Nintendo was third on 72.217%, the highest Grand Prix score for the duo in three years.
Olivia of Haymarket, Virginia and Lonoir, 16-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding were awarded 73.435% in the first CDI since July 2018.
Canada’s Lindsay Kellock on Sebastien placed second on 70.087%.
Juan Matute Guimon, who moved to his homeland of Spain from Wellington two years ago and is back competing at Global for the first time since, rode Don Diego to third place on 678.457%.
