TORONTO, Canada, Nov. 6, 2019–Tina Busse-Irwin has been named Equestrian Canada’s Athlete of the Year and Laurencio, the horse she rode to win Pan American Games team gold to earn her nation a start at next year’s Olympics in Tokyo, is Horse of the Year.

Tina, 38 years old and originally from Germany, and her husband, Jaimey own Laurencio (Laurentio x Donnerhall), a 12-year-old Oldenburg gelding.

Tina, who rode on Canada’s Pan Am team in 2011, first competed Laurencio internationally, at Small Tour in Wellington, Florida in 2016. In 19 Small Tour starts in Canada and the U.S. through 2017, the pair posted 13 victories. She moved up to Grand Prix in 2018 but dropped back to Prix St. Georges/Intermediate 1 in 2019 in a successful bid to help Canada earn a Tokyo Olympic team berth.

Chloe Gasiorowski, the owner of Floratina that Lindsay Kellock, based in Wellington, Florida, rode on Canada’s Pan Am gold medal team, was named Owner of the Year.
