EXLOO, Netherlands, Oct. 27, 2019–Jeanine Nieuwenhuis on TC Athene won the CDI3* Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday for a double victory in the debut Big Tour event for the Dutch combination that swept the European Under-25 Championships three months ago.
Jeanine and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding scored 75.740% for the win two days after capturing the Grand Prix.
The Big Tour debut for the 24-year-old rider and Athene comes after five years of success in youth championships including the 2016 European Young Rider Championships in addition to the Under-25s.
Juliette Piotrowski on Sir Diamond, on Germany’s gold medal team at the 2018 European Under-25 Championships, placed second on a personal best 73.995%.
Holland’s Lynne Maas on Electra was third on 72.380%.
