LEUDELANGE, Luxembourg, July 5, 2019–Adrienne Lyle and the American-bred Harmony’s Duval made a winning debut in Europe Friday with a commanding victory in the Dressage Grand Ducal CDI4* Grand Prix.
Adrienne and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding that started CDI Grand Prix five months ago scored 73.022% in the first ever competition in Europe and three months since the pair last competed, at Tryon, North Carolina. All five judges placed the pair first.
Mistakes in the one-tempi changes kept their score below their best Grand Prix result of 75.130% at the Tryon CDI3*.
Adrienne, an Olympic and World Equestrian Games team rider for the U.S., and Duval (Rousseau x Riverman) began their Big Tour career in February and before going to Europe logged six victories in eight starts at the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida and Tryon. The duo made nine CDI Small Tour starts in Wellington in 2017.
“I couldn’t have asked for more for his European debut and first year at Grand Prix,” Adrienne told dressage-news.com.
“It has been such an amazing journey with this horse, taking him from saddle breaking to Grand Prix and now to Europe.
“He has an engine that never stops, a great heart and work ethic and I think that counts for a lot in the sport.
“I think there is a lot more in his tank than we’ve seen so far.”
Duval was bred by Leslie Malone of Harmony Sporthorses in Kiowa, Colorado and is owned by Duval Partners LLC, a group of Northwest United States supporters that Adrienne described as “wonderful.” She specially thanked Debbie McDonald, the U.S. team coach but whom Adrienne has worked with for years “for her guidance every step of the way.”
Luxembourg’s Sascha Schulz and Dragao, 11-year-old Lusitano stallion, placed second on 69.522%. Finland’s Terhi Stegars on Thai Pee was third on 69.130%
