LEUDELANGE, Luxembourg, July 2, 2019–Benjamin Ebeling on Behlinger logged a personal best Freestyle score Thursday for the American Young Rider’s most successful European competition and second runner-up finish to Russia’s Anna Guseynova on Lauda who dominated the division.
Anna and the 14-year-old Westfalen gelding scored 74.560% for the freestyle victory to complete a sweep of the Young Rider division. The pair competed at the European Junior Rider Championships in 2017 and 2018 and took team silver and individual gold at the 2016 Children’s Europeans.
Benjamin, 19 years old of Moorpark, California, and the 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding were awarded 72.230% to place second, as they did in the CDI Young Rider Individual Wednesday.
This was the second European circuit for Ben, who will be a sophomore majoring in business at the start of the new school year at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
As a two-time member of the U.S. Young Rider European squad for which he qualified at the Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Florida, he competed Behlinger in the Nations Cup in Hagen, Germany in 2017 as well as this same event and at Deauville, France. This year, the pair competed in Compiègne, France in May and the Olympic test event at Hagen last month.
Behlinger is owned by the “Three Amigos”–his mother, Amy Ebeling, Ann Romney and Elizabeth Meyer–who owned the mare Rafalca that Ben’s father, Jan Ebeling, rode for the U.S. at the 2012 London Olympics.
