HAGEN, Germany, April 27, 2019–Sönke Rothenberger and Cosmo won the Horses & Dreams CDI4* Grand Prix Saturday in the first competition in more than six months for the German Olympic and World Games gold medal partnership. Isabell Werth and Emilio, ranked No. 4 in the world, were runner-up.

Sönke and Cosmo, a 12-year-old KWPN gelding, were awarded 81.239%, the second hghest Grand Prix score for the pair in 3 1/2 years at Big Tour. Four of the five judges placed the 24-year-old rider and Cosmo first with the fifth identical scores with Isabell and Emilio.

Sönke, 24 years old, and Cosmo have been partnered in international competition from 2014 and included team gold at the European Young Riders Championship; the 2016 Rio Olympics; 2017 European Championships where they also won individual and freestyle silver, as well as the 2018 World Games in Tryon. The WEG was a personal best Grand Prix score of 81.444%.

This was also the first show since a fire destroyed the Rothenberger training center at the end of February. Cosmo was led to safety by Sönke from the burning stables.

Isabell Werth and Emilio, 13-year-old Westfalen gelding, scored 79.326% for second place.

Fellow German team rider Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and TSF Dalera BB, 12-year-old Trakehner mare ranked No. 11 in the world, were third on 77.391%.

Sweden’s Olympic and World Games combination of Juliette Ramel and Buriel K.H. posted a personal best 76.783% for fourth place.
