Dorothee Schneider reported Monday she has withdrawn from the World Cup Final next week as Sammy Davis Jr. is taking longer than expected to recover from an infection. Germany’s Benjamin Werndl and Daily Mirror will replace the pair in the lineup at Gothenburg, Sweden.

Dorothee Schneider and Sammy, 13-year-old German Sport Horse gelding, ranked No. 8 in the world and ranked second in the World Cup Western European League, behind fellow German Helen Langehanenberg on Damsey FRH.

However, the horse developed an infection that led to withdrawal from the last European qualifying show and, Dorothee reported Monday, treatment was taking longer than expected so had to “renounce with a heavy heart” a start at the annual world championship scheduled for April 3-7.

Gothenburg will be the first World Cup Final start for Benjamin, 34.

He and Daily Mirror, 15-year-old Westfalen gelding (Damon Hill x Florestan I), ranked No. 22 in the world, stood third in the Western European standings.

The final lineup of 18 dressage horses and riders for the World Cup has not yet been announced. The 35 jumping combinations were announced last Thursday.
