SÃO PAULO, Brazil, Mar. 18, 2019–João Victor Oliva on Biso das Lezirias claimed a double victory at Small Tour while Pedro Manuel Tavares de Almeida on Aoleo was successful at Grand Prix in the first of four competitions to qualify for Brazil’s Pan American Games team.
João Victor Oliva, 23, based in Germany, rode the 13-year-old Lusitano stallion to scores of 71.863 per cent in the Prix St. Georges and 69.951 per cent at Int. 1. Biso das Lezirias was previously competed by Maria Caetano of Portugal.
The 2018 World Equestrian Games combination of Pedro Manuael on Aeleo, a 16-year-old Lusitano stallion, scored 68.007 per cent in the Grand Prix.
Teams for the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru in July can be made up Big and Small Tour combinations but must include a Grand Prix pair to earn one of the two places to start at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The United States that plans to send a team to Lima qualified for Tokyo with its silver medal performance at the Tryon World Games.
The Pan Ams are staged once every four years. Brazil captured Pan Am team bronze in 1975, 1983, 2007 and 2015.
