‘s-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, Mar. 14, 2019–Isabell Werth on Emilio won the World Cup Grand Prix Thursday to give the defending champion a backup for the Final in three weeks, while Denmark’s Daniel Bachmann Andersen on Blue Hors Zack was runner-up. Germany’s Benjamin Werndl on Daily Mirror posted a personal best to place third in the final qualifying event for the World Cup.
Isabell and the 13-year-old Westfalen gelding were awarded 77.196 per cent for the win that if the horse starts the Freestyle Saturday will give the German superstar rider a backup to Weiehegold OLD on which she has won the last two annual global championships.
Daniel and the 15-year-old KWPN stallion scored 76.109 per cent for second place. The Danish team rider is already likely to earn a start at the Final in Gothenburg pril 3-7.
Benjamin Werndl and Daily Mirror placed third on 75.739 per cent, a personal best for the German rider and the 15-year-old Hanoverian stallion.
Benjamin is fighting for a World Cup start in a group of Germans that includes some of the world’s leading combinations–Helen Langehanenberg on Damsey FRH ranked No. 6 that scored 75.370 per cent for fourth place Thursday, and Dorothee Schneider on Sammy Davis Jr. standing eighth in the world that scored 72.761 per cent. Only three riders from one nation can go to the final–Isabell Werth and two others.
