NORTH SALEM, New York, Aug. 1, 2018–A combined Quebec and Alberta team on Wednesday became the first from Canada in at least seven years to win North American Young Rider Championship gold, with a combined United States California/North Central squad taking silver and U.S. Mid-Atlantic the bronze.
The team of Rakeya Moussa on Davidoff v.h. Trichelhof, Beatrice Boucher on Delfiano and Camille Carier Bergeron on Baldacci posted a score of 210.145 to claim gold, that official records of team results that go back to 2012 showed was the first for Canada in that time.
The U.S. Region 4 & 7 took silver on a score of 202.646 with U.S. Region 1 earning bronze on 202.087.
Of the seven teams in the competition, the gold medal squad was the only one with three combinations. The five U.S. teams and another Canadian team all had four riders and horses which gave them a score that could be discarded as only the top three results count.
America’s Callie Jones of Henderson, Kentucky on Don Philippo, who competed at top European shows this summer including with the U.S. team at the prestigious Hagen, Germany, competition, was the highest placed individual on 71.824 per cent.
Rakeya Moussa on Davidoff v.h. Trichelhof from the Canadian gold medal team placed second on 71.324 per cent with team mate Camille Carier Bergeron on Baldacci third on 70.353 per cent.
