FALSTERBO, Sweden, Jul 15, 2018–Sweden claimed the CDIO5* Nations Cup gold Sunday. clinching the trans-Atlantic series of seven team competitions for the second year. Germany took silver and the Netherlands bronze at this event.
The home team that added Falsterbo to claim victories in three of four European Nations Cups, and silver in a fourth, has earned so many points that with only two more events to go Sweden cannot be overtaken. Only four results can count for the series title.
Sweden leads with 55 points, Netherlands second on 46, Denmark third on 30, Germany fourth on 22 and USA fifth on 21. The two remaining events are Aachen, Germany this week and Hickstead, England at the end of the month.
Three-time Olympic rider Patrik Kittel on Deja, who led Sweden to the lead after the Grand Prix Saturday won the Freestyle on a score of 81.975 per cent on Sunday.
Germany’s Jan-Dirk Giesselmann on Real Dancer FRH with 72.660 per cent was the top finisher in the Grand Prix Special that with the freestule counted for the final team result.
The outcome of the Falsterbo event under a new format that awards points for placings in each of the three Grand Prix-levels with lower number placing highest was in little doubt after the Grand Prix Saturday when Sweden established a big lead in the third year of the official series that began in Wellington, Florida in March. The United States won the first official series in 2016 with Sweden taking the title in 2017.
The format was changed from the traditional system of results based on scores at the request of the Netherlands after the country’s team lost to the United States in Rotterdam in 2017. The Netherlands won in Rotterdam this year under the new format.
The series-winning nation the first two years received a silver plate, not a cup. The trophy has not yet been announced for this year.
