FALSTERBO, Sweden, July 14, 2018–Sweden was led by three-time Olympian Patrik Kittel on Deja to a dominating lead in the CDIO5* Nations Cup Saturday, the home team looking to secure its second straight title in the trans-Atlantic series.

After the Grand Prix–the first of three phases of the team competition–Sweden led with 10 points, followed by Germany on 19, Netherlands 25, Russia 30 and Denmark 42 under a new scoring format that awards points equal to the placings of individual combinations with the lowest result leading.

Patrik and the 14-year-old Swedish Warmblood mare scored 75.543 per cent to capture the Grand Prix. The Ramel sister consolidated the country’s standing–Juliette on Wall Street JV placing third 73.543 per cent Antonia on Brother de Jeu in sixth on 71.935 per cent.

Russia’s top combination of Inessa Merkulova on Mister X were second on 73.717 per cent.

Germany’s Katheen Keller on San Royal was awarded 73.174 per cent to boost the nation in second place heading into the Grand Prix Special and Freestyle that will decide the competition Sunday.
