SEGOVIA, Spain, June 2, 2018–Beatriz Ferrer-Salat rode Delgado to the third straight Spanish Championship Saturday when the Olympic pair won the Grand Prix Freestyle while the 20-year-old Juan Matute, Jr. and Quantico Ymas took bronze in both the musical performance and the national title behind José Antonio Garcia Mena and Benzi Landro.

Beatriz and the 17-year-old Westfalen gelding were awarded 82.425 per cent and the unanimous choice of the four Spanish and one Dutch judge for first place. Victories by Beatriz and Delgado in the Grand Prix and the Special assured Spain’s top ranked combination with their third national title.

José Antonio Garcia Mena and Benzi Landro, a 12-year-old KWPN gelding, placed second in the freestyle on 75.885 per cent and clinched silver for the overall championship.

Juan Matute, Jr. and Quantico Ymas, a 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding, scored 75.740 per cent to take bronze for their musical performance and also take bronze in the overall championship, the first medal for the Florida-based rider in the senior championships.

Juan was placed second by three of the five judges with two favoring José and Benzi Landro for runner-up, with differences of almost eight percentage points between the high and low scores.
